Mechanical Engineer, Thermal Analyst

FreeWire Technologies is an experienced Mechanical Engineer, Thermal Analyst to perform detail design and drafting of mechanical components and assemblies, in addition to thermodynamic/heating/ventilation used in advanced electro-mechanical applications.

Responsibilities

  • Perform conceptual and detailed thermal analysEs of EV charging systems, sub-systems and components

    • Analysis of thermal systems, air- and fluid-flow systems, and air- or liquid-cooled electronic enclosures

    • Analysis incorporates extensive and detailed use of embedded analysis modules in CAD systems, as well as classical methods/hand calculations to perform temperature predictions of electronic components/systems and experiment design

  • Work intimately with the mechanical engineering design team during conceptual and detailed mechanical design phases

  • Design and perform engineering and verification/qualification tests

  • Candidate will be expected to follow established procedures and instructions while working closely with program and management supervision to ensure design objectives are met

  • Design and develop products, components, processes, and systems using broad engineering concepts and research techniques

  • Document design specifications

  • Interface with engineers, providing CAD design from product inception to release

  • Assist in product bill of materials (BOM) construction

  • Provide support of material procurement by interfacing with suppliers/fabricators

  • Provide support of existing product designs through the production cycle by incorporating engineering change orders (ECO)

Qualifications

  • BSME: Mechanical Engineering

  • Thermal design/analysis of inverters, chargers or EV charging systems

  • Experience with embedded analysis modules in CAD systems (SOLIDWORKS or PTC Creo)

  • Ability to read detailed engineering drawings and specifications

  • Structural/stress analysis experience a plus

  • 3-5 years of engineering design and thermal analysis experience

  • Working knowledge of ANSI Y14.5

  • Knowledge of manufacturing methods (sheet metal, plastics, welding, assembly, electrical-mechanical interfaces)

  • Experience in thermal design, analysis, and thermal testing experience of electronic assemblies

  • Effective written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills

  • Ability to work effectively with other design disciplines as well as manufacturing to create design solutions that address often-conflicting requirements
