Spring has sprung, and FreeWire is ready for a full season of outdoor charging activities! After a week delivering electricity for Coachella 2018 setup, our Mobi Gen energy storage systems are returning home to the Bay Area to bring clean (and quiet) mobile power to the city’s popular series of street food events, produced by Off the Grid­ –  just in time for an early Earth Day.

Off the Grid unlocks the value of space through food, transforming under-utilized public spaces into thriving cultural hubs that celebrate the best of the Bay Area’s best mobile food community. Beginning April 20th, our Mobi Gen Flex technology will provide five hours of zero-emissions power to mobile food operators participating in Off the Grid’s weekly Friday night Fort Mason Center destination market.

Each year, Off the Grid strives to build partnerships with like-minded organizations that can support its sustainability initiatives and improve the overall experience at its events. Since its inception, the organization has sought to operate with the most sustainable and environmentally-friendly options available. While fossil fuel-based technologies contribute to a decline in surrounding air quality and can generate unpleasant noise and smells, Mobi Gen provides a quality solution for Off the Grid that meets the energy demands of the market while bringing the company closer to operating on a fully sustainable model — ensuring that guests enjoy fresh air, a cleaner environment, and hear only the sizzle of grills, the clinking of drinks and the friendly chatter of friends, neighbors and strangers.

Through a grant from the Bay Area Air Quality Management District, Off the Grid is replacing two existing generators with one Mobi Gen system, eliminating 10 gallons of diesel fuel at each event and cutting nearly 3 tons of CO2 emissions across the 2018 season.

The Off the Grid team is committed to their environmental efforts and are saying farewell to the first batch of fuel-burning generators by destroying them­ –  we’ve even got the footage to prove it! Switching to FreeWire’s onsite power solution is just part of Off the Grid’s ongoing commitment to adopt green practices across all service offerings. Other projects include working toward making its destination markets at Fort Mason Center and the Presidio (held in partnership with the Presidio Trust) zero-waste and leveraging advanced management software to reduce food waste and optimize supply chains for its catering business.

This new partnership hits us close to home. Our vision is to deliver clean power wherever and whenever it’s needed. As part of the Bay Area community, we’re thrilled to play a critical part in enhancing the atmosphere for local food vendors and hungry San Franciscans alike.
