Arcady is a co-founder of FreeWire Technologies, Inc. and serves as the Chief Executive Officer. He has led the company from ideation, formation, incubation and now oversees customer acquisition and revenue growth. Prior to launching FreeWire, Arcady spent seven years in the finance industry, most recently at investment firm GMO, where he focused on emerging markets, creating a best-of-breed financial database analytics suite that is now used throughout the firm to trade more than $130 billion in assets. Arcady holds a B.S. in Business Administration with a concentration in Management of Information Systems, as well as a B.A. in Economics from Boston University. He earned his MBA at the University of California, Berkeley, Haas School of Business.
Jawann is a co-founder of FreeWire Technologies, Inc. and serves as the organization’s Chief Information Officer. He has worked in software product management throughout his career and currently manages all aspects of software development and IT infrastructure for the company. Prior to joining FreeWire, Jawann spent six years in the investment accounting software industry, all with Eagle Investment Systems, a subsidiary of BNY Mellon. Jawann holds a B.S. in Business Administration from the University of Vermont and an MBA from the University of Colorado-Boulder, Leeds School of Business.
As Chief Operating Officer and member of the Board of Directors, Martin leads engineering, operations, sales, and marketing functions, as well as executing the company’s financial plan. He brings a wealth of technical and operational leadership to FreeWire, which he developed across high-and-low volume product lines that encompass complex electro-mechanical devices, embedded control systems and SaaS offerings. Prior to joining FreeWire, Martin was Chief Operating Officer at SunLink, a utility-scale solar tracking supplier. He previously directed engineering and operations as an Executive VP at Xicato, a high-end commercial intelligent LED supplier, and was Chief Operating Officer at Cornice, an early-stage micro-HDD start up. Martin is a 25-year veteran of the disk drive industry, including serving as VP of Engineering for Maxtor’s server product group. He holds a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Boston University, as well as several patents in genetic algorithm-based HDD test process systems.
Rich Steele is a co-founder of FreeWire Technologies, Inc. and serves as Chief Engineer. He spearheaded the creation of the Mobi Charger and Mobi Gen product lines from development to production. Prior to joining FreeWire, Rich worked in the lithium-ion battery industry, developing and managing pack technologies at Leyden Energy before its acquisition by A123 Systems. His previous roles included several years in aerospace testing missile and satellite components, as well as designing and building a general payload system (GPS) that flew on every U.S. space shuttle mission. In addition, Rich spent several years in biotech redesigning, testing and manufacturing various Class II medical devices. He served as a U.S. Delegate at the inaugural Global Clean Vehicle Summit (GCVS) in Changzhou, China. He holds a B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering from DeVry University, with a focus on electronics, physics, and free space optics (FSO).
Torben is VP of Product and Marketing, where he is responsible for product management and marketing of the FreeWire product portfolio. He leads the team developing the customer journey and product fit for FreeWire’s mobile connected energy solutions, Mobi Gen and Mobi Charge. Prior to FreeWire, Torben held positions in strategy, business development, finance and marketing at Siemens in Germany, New York and the Bay Area. He is a versatile and technology-savvy strategist with a passion for both urban development and IT. Torben holds a degree in Computer Science and Sales Consulting, as well as an MBA-equivalent degree from the Fernuniversität Hagen in Germany, focused on marketing, organizational psychology and development.
Mark serves as VP of Operations, bringing extensive knowledge of the manufacturing process, including quality improvement, cycle-time improvement, as well as process development and implementation utilizing lean principles and best practices. Prior to joining FreeWire, Mark was Senior Director of Operations at Flextronics, where he increased his division’s annual revenue by 150 percent. Previously, he was Director of Manufacturing for Nanosolar, where he was responsible for ramping up cell manufacturing operations for mass production, and Senior Manufacturing and Operations Manager for Credence Test Systems, where he led operations for the Diagnostics/Calibration Division.
As VP of Sales, Ethan is responsible for helping meet customer needs for clean, quiet, mobile power to take advantage of new revenue models and opportunities at the grid edge. Ethan provides leadership for day-to-day operations of the sales team while maintaining focus on the company’s strategic goals, which include revenue growth, go-to-market strategy, and vertical expansion. Prior to joining FreeWire, Ethan held sales management, business development and regulatory policy positions in several energy-related companies, including Kevala, Inc., Spruce (Formerly Clean Power Finance), NRG Residential Solar Solutions, and Sunrun. Ethan holds a B.A. in Law and Politics from the University of California at Santa Cruz and a M.S. in Journalism from Columbia University.
As Director of Marketing, Joanna brings 15 years of experience developing integrated, results-driven marketing programs for leading startups and global companies across sustainability, cleantech, energy, power electronics, and smart grid sectors. Prior to joining FreeWire, Joanna was Global Director of Marketing at Power Standards Lab, a world-leading provider of precision electronic instruments for monitoring power quality and energy. Before that, Joanna served as Marketing Manager at Gridco Systems, a developer of next-generation grid edge infrastructure solutions, enabling utilities to more effectively integrate renewables and manage power flows. Previously, she was Marketing Communications Manager at Ambient Corporation, an award-winning developer of smart grid communications infrastructure. Joanna holds a B.S. in Business Administration in Finance from Northeastern University and an M.A. in Sustainability and Environmental Management from Harvard University Extension School.
As Director of Program Management, Shawn brings more than 20 years of experience in the aerospace, medical device, mobile, and software industries to FreeWire, along with an extensive background in design, manufacturing and testing of solar, batteries and mechanical systems. Before joining FreeWire, Shawn was Subsystem and Manufacturing Manager at Space Systems/Loral, as well as Senior Program Manager at InnoPath Software. He has extensive experience leading multidisciplinary teams in the successful completion of complex projects. Shawn approaches all projects with a strong strategic focus and an emphasis on team building to steer a clear path toward project success. He holds a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from California State Maritime Academy and an M.S. in Engineering Management from Santa Clara University.
As Director of Mechanical Engineering, Scott manages all aspects of mechanical engineering, including computer-aided design and analysis, product life cycle management, and prototype manufacturing and assembly. Prior to joining FreeWire, Scott worked as a General Manager in the precision manufacturing industry. His previous roles include significant work as a mechanical engineer at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, which included developing superconducting magnets used in the Large Hadron Collider in Switzerland. Scott holds a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from San Francisco State University and has co-authored numerous IEEE publications.
As Director of Electrical Engineering, Robert brings two decades of experience in R&D, product development and execution to FreeWire. Robert has worked across multiple market segments, including IoT, data storage, power systems, networking and RF communications. He is also a technology entrepreneur with extensive experience in developing strategic alliances for ecosystem partnerships at the executive and working levels. His prior experience includes leadership roles at Aperia Technologies, a connected cars software solution provider; Belkin International, a consumer electronics manufacturer specializing in connectivity devices; and Bridgelux, Inc., a smart lighting and controls company. His early career was spent at IBM. Robert holds a B.S. from Baldwin-Wallace College; two M.S. degrees from Washington University, St. Louis; and a Ph.D. from Carnegie Mellon University.
As Director of Business Development, Rob is responsible for discovering and commercializing new applications for the company’s products. Prior to joining FreeWire, Rob spent more than a decade successfully developing new markets for next-generation technologies at TDK and Hyperion Catalysis. At TDK, he was part of a team that commercialized MEMS sensors and SAW RF filters for the consumer electronics industry. At Hyperion Catalysis, Rob was a pioneer in the carbon nanotube industry – identifying and developing commercial applications and helping create a $60-million automotive and electronics business. Rob holds a B.S. in Finance with a minor in International Business from the University of Delaware.
As Utility Segment Director, Jerremy works with electric utilities highlighting the benefits of utility-provided battery charging services and the opportunities available from off-peak charging. This role builds on the experience and relationships that he gained in his prior position as Director of Business Development for Direct Technology, a leading provider of energy efficiency program tracking and reporting solutions. Jerremy holds a B.S. in Business Administration with a focus in Finance, as well as a B.A. in Economics from California State University, Sacramento.
As Director of Product, Sam draws on a deep background in the semiconductor industry, including applications engineering, product and strategic marketing roles in San Jose, Taipei, and the greater China region. After a short stint in investment banking and a year launching a start-up out of a joint partnership between Northwestern University and Argonne National Lab, Sam started his product management career in the solar industry, managing hardware and software products through various stages of development and product life cycles. One of his major achievements was managing the partnership between Sunrun and retail giant Costco, which now accounts for a significant portion of Sunrun’s business. Sam holds Electrical Engineering and Computer Science degrees from the University of California, Berkeley, as well as a combined MBA and M.S. in Engineering Management from Northwestern University.
As Director of Software, Ivan brings extensive experience in backend software development and network security, combined with strong knowledge of energy delivery and energy storage. In multiple prior roles, Ivan worked in network security, web tools and IT automation before joining SolarCity (now Tesla), where he led development of their solar monitoring hardware and firmware, and developed advanced analytical techniques. More recently at GELI (Growing Energy Labs Inc.), an energy storage industry pioneer, Ivan developed the company’s storage software cloud+embedded (GENI+EOS) platform to manage and aggregate behind-the-meter battery systems. He holds a B.S. in Computer Science from the University of California, Berkeley.
As Director of Regulatory Affairs at FreeWire, Rajiv leads the company’s efforts in securing grant opportunities and incentives, engaging regulatory and policy stakeholders and participating in regulatory proceedings. Prior to joining FreeWire, Rajiv served as Assistant Secretary for the Environment in the New York governor’s office, where he led budget negotiations, designed Governor Cuomo’s signature environmental policy initiatives and oversaw the operations of eight state agencies. Previously, Rajiv also served as an attorney in the New York State Attorney General’s Criminal Prosecutions Bureau. He holds a B.A. in Environmental Science and Biology from the University of Pennsylvania and a J.D. from Fordham University.
